Why we went to Accountex 2019

Accountex

Lots of interest at Europe’s No. 1 Accountancy and Finance Conference.

Accountex 2019 aimed to launch into the future of accounting and finance – and this year certainly did not prove a disappointment.

Held at the ExCel in London, the conference brought together global brands and cutting-edge start-up businesses promoting technology and solutions to take accounting and finance functions to the next level.  The main themes of Accountex 2019 were Making Tax Digital (MTD), Cyber-Security, cloud technology and, you guessed it, Brexit.

As a Proptech focused provider we are always looking for Apps that enable us to provide integrated automated solutions for clients.  We’re often required to extract data from property management systems and import that data into the main finance system, where the entity’s accounting and tax filing is typically managed.  A requirement of MTD for VAT from 2020 is an unbroken digital record of transactions from the originating system through to the accounting package used to file the VAT returns. This presents an interesting challenge for businesses generating information from multiple systems and this is the kind of challenge we enjoy.

We spent time talking to many names we knew as well as some interesting new tech start-ups.  Cybersecurity was also at the fore of discussion – as a Cybsafe business, we recognise the importance of awareness and the latest training in this area.  Overall a day well spent.
